Horley Triathlon 2011

Sunday 26th June 2011

Following the success of last year's event, the members of Horley RFC are organising the second annual Horley Triathlon. Last year, participants were of all shapes, sizes and physical conditions but the one thing they all had in common was thoroughly enjoying the experience.

We would like to invite anyone interested in participating to join us for this year's fabulous event. The triathlon is open to anyone over 17 years of age, regardless of sex or physical condition. Whether you participate for fun or take it seriously, you will have a great time.

A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession. In order to attract people of all abilities, the 2010 Horley Triathlon will be the recognised Sprint Triathlon distance of a 750 metre swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run - a comfortable distance for people of all shapes and sizes whilst offering true athletes an opportunity to stretch their legs and set record times.

The swim will take place at the Horley Anderson centre where entrants will complete 30 lengths of the pool. On completing the swim, they will immediately jump on their bikes for the 20km cycle taking riders out to Copthorne before racing home to the rugby club in Court Lodge and completing the run.

Entrants will be split into groups based on ability so you will be amongst people of a similar standard. Once everyone has finished, there will be prizes for Fastest Male, Fastest Female, Fastest Swim, Fastest Cycle, and Fastest Run. All entrants will receive a medal to commemmorate their achievement.

The entry cost is just £35.

DNF* - Watson received a puncture after 12 km and continued to run the cycle part of the race barefoot with bike on shoulder. Whilst this disqualified his cycle time and overall time, his times in both the swim and run were ruled to be legal and within competition rules.
